Originally introduced in 1999 under Nike’s experimental Alpha Project as the "Air Sunder Max", this futuristic cross-training icon made a massive cultural comeback with its retro re-release. It is widely celebrated for its unique shroud closure and striking technical design.
Key Design Features
- Upper & Shroud: Constructed from a vibrant Canyon Gold and Speed Yellow gradient stretch-spandex shroud that completely encases a hidden traditional lacing system underneath.
- Mudguard & Overlays: A dark Deep Ocean navy mudguard runs along the base, accented by distinctive, perforated Light Smoke Grey thermoplastic rubber (TPR) panels that feature high-visibility reflective elements.
- Midsole & Cushioning: A sculpted white Phylon foam midsole housing visible Max Air cushioningunits in the heel and classic Nike Air in the forefoot for springy comfort. [1, 2]
- Hidden Easter Egg: Unzipping the front shroud reveals the numbers "6453" on the tongue liner—a nod to the last four digits of Nike’s global office phone numbers, which spell out "N-I-K-E" on a standard telephone keypad.
